Existing Simultaneously: Past, Present, and Future

Published on July 21, 2026 at 10:10 AM

There are moments on the journey when we begin to question time itself.

We remember something from years ago and suddenly feel its emotion as though it is happening now. We imagine a future possibility so vividly that it begins changing the choices we make today. Then we notice something even more profound:

healing one forgotten memory changes the way we experience this present moment, while also opening possibilities that once seemed beyond our reach.

Time is not divided as neatly as we were taught.

We exist within the past, present, and future simultaneously.

What has already happened remains connected to what is happening now. What we choose now contributes to what is already unfolding ahead. The decisions made by our present and future selves can also reach backward, changing the condition of the versions of us who still carry wounds from earlier experiences.

The past is not simply gone.

The future is not merely waiting.

The present is not isolated between them.

All three continually participate in the same living journey.

Every Version of Us Exists Within the Journey

The younger versions of ourselves do not disappear simply because our physical bodies grow older.

The little girl or little boy who experienced disappointment, fear, confusion, loneliness, abandonment, rejection, or pain still deserves acknowledgment.

Those versions of us still deserve protection.

They still deserve compassion.

They still deserve to be heard.

They still deserve the healing they may not have received when the experience first occurred.

When those wounds remain ignored, the cycle remains active. The unhealed experience can continue influencing our thoughts, reactions, relationships, decisions, boundaries, and sense of self in the present. Those present patterns then contribute to the future we are continually creating.

A wound left unattended does not become healed simply because time passes.

It can continue traveling.

But healing can travel too.

-Healing Reaches Backward and Forward

When we consciously decide to heal, that decision does not only affect the version of us who exists in the present.

We reach backward toward the version of ourselves who first carried the wound.

We acknowledge what happened.

We give that version of ourselves the love, protection, patience, truth, and care that may have been missing.

We remind them that they are no longer alone within that experience.

In doing so, we heal the past version of ourselves who remained connected to that moment.

That healing changes the foundation beneath the present.

The present version of us no longer has to react from the same unhealed place.

Different thoughts become available.

Different responses become available.

Different boundaries become available.

Different choices become available.

Those new choices then build a different future.

Healing the past changes the present, and the transformed present gives life to a new future.

The exchange continues in every direction.

-The Future Also Influences the Past

We often speak about the past affecting the future, but the future also carries influence backward.

A future decision to heal can reach a version of us who once remained unhealed.

A future decision to forgive ourselves can reach the version who carried guilt.

A future decision to speak can reach the version who was silenced.

A future decision to choose ourselves can reach the version who once felt abandoned.

A future decision to live differently can break a cycle that had continued across many seasons of our lives.

This is why our choices matter so deeply.

A decision made now can affect much more than the moment in which it is made.

It can change the meaning we carry from the past.

It can change the reality we experience in the present.

It can change which future becomes available within that timeline.

 -Every Choice Creates Direction

Every decision becomes a point of movement.

Choosing to heal creates one direction.

Choosing to continue avoiding the wound creates another.

Choosing discipline creates one path.

Choosing distraction creates another.

Choosing truth creates one path.

Choosing what is familiar simply because it is familiar creates another.

Each decision contributes to the timeline we continue experiencing.

Different choices create different versions of what can unfold.

This does not mean that every decision must be made from fear of making the wrong choice. It means awareness allows us to recognize that our choices carry creative influence.

When we move without awareness, old cycles can repeat themselves.

When we pay attention, we gain the opportunity to choose consciously.

We can ask whether a decision supports healing or continues avoidance.

We can ask whether it strengthens the life we are creating or keeps us connected to what we already know must change.

We can ask whether the future version of us can continue building from what we choose today.

-The Past, Present, and Future Are Happening Together

The past is happening through the versions of us still connected to earlier experiences.

The present is happening through the awareness and choices available to us now.

The future is happening through the possibilities being shaped by every decision, every act of healing, every moment of remembrance, and every direction we choose.

This has already happened.

This is happening now.

We are present within it.

Our present awareness allows us to participate in what continues unfolding across the whole journey.

When we reach back to heal, the past changes because the version of us within that experience is no longer left alone.

When the past version becomes healed, the present version no longer carries the wound in the same way.

When the present changes, a different future version of us becomes possible.

This is not three separate stories.

It is one living exchange occurring through many expressions of us.

-Remembrance Helps Us Recognize the Pattern

Learning matters, but remembrance is also essential.

Sometimes the truth we need does not feel new.

It feels familiar.

It feels like something inside us finally becoming clear again.

Remembrance helps us recognize old cycles.

It allows us to see where we have been reacting from wounds rather than awareness.

It helps us identify which versions of ourselves still need attention.

It reminds us that healing is not about rejecting who we were.

It is about returning for every part of ourselves that deserves to be included within who we are becoming.

We do not become whole by abandoning the past.

We become whole by acknowledging, healing, and integrating the versions of ourselves who helped carry us here.

 -Living with Greater Awareness

Recognizing the connection between the past, present, and future changes the way we move through life.

We become more conscious of what we continue.

We become more attentive to what needs healing.

We become more responsible for what we create.

We become more compassionate toward the versions of ourselves who once survived with the awareness they had at the time.

We stop treating the future as something completely outside of us.

We recognize that it is being nourished now.

Every moment of healing contributes.

Every act of courage contributes.

Every boundary contributes.

Every truth spoken contributes.

Every conscious decision contributes.

The future does not begin later.

It is already participating with us.

-The Journey Continues Through Every Version of Us

The past, present, and future do not exist as isolated chapters.

They are continually participating in one another.

The past carries experiences that still ask to be acknowledged.

The present carries the awareness and freedom to choose.

The future carries possibilities shaped by what we decide to heal, continue, release, remember, and create.

When we heal now, we reach backward with compassion and forward with intention.

We change the experience of the version who once carried the wound.

We change the foundation of the version living now.

We change what becomes possible for the version still unfolding.

Every version matters.

Every wound deserves attention.

Every conscious choice creates movement.

Every act of healing can become a new beginning across the entire timeline.

-Reflection

-Which past version of you still deserves to be acknowledged, protected, and healed by the version of you who exists now?

-What conscious decision can you make in the present that begins creating a different future across your timeline?
